Hey Reader,
My, My, My Johnny Gill - it's been a while! First and foremost, let me greet the room: how are you? You know how we check in around here. Hit reply and let me know how you've been. Just like in my team meetings, respond back with a color and an explanation similar to a stoplight:
- Red: It's tight over here. Bump me up a couple spots on your prayer list, Vannesia!
- Yellow: I'm making it, but there's a little trouble in my way.
- Green: I'm good! Green is serene.
Today, I'm green because my birthday is in two days (8/8)! Cheers to another trip around the sun. My business has also turned nine since I was last in your inbox. Not only is that insane, but it also means that I've been writing these emails for nine years. What started as a mass text became an email community that has grown to over 650 real people. How did we get here, Deborah Cox? I'm so grateful.
To celebrate my birthday and MOXIE Nashville's, I'm discounting my signature program, Get Your Business Together, to $79 until Friday at 11:59pm ET. No promo code needed. Grab it here.
On the school front, I'm writing my proposal which is the the step before you're cleared to collect data and write your dissertation (Ph.D. loading…). Since completing my coursework, my mind has been a bit freer to become inspired again. I can't wait until we are done and I can get back to writing to you more consistently (yes, I wrote "we" because I'm on this personal development path with you!).
I'm also excited to share that I've been selected as one of the 2025 Women in Business Honorees by Nashville Lifestyle Magazine! I’m featured in their magazine, Chile! It's available now in print and digital…like, on actual newsstands and in stores!
Check out the digital version of the article here and join me on Thursday, September 4, at the Hilton Nashville Green Hills from 5pm-7:30pm to network and celebrate with the other Women in Business 2025 honorees and 300+ local business professionals. Their August cover star, This is Us actress and singer Chrissy Metz, will have a special guest appearance! Get your tickets here.
In some not-so-good news, spammers attacked my blog and business website a few months ago. I had to shut both down until further notice. The malware they used was brutal.
I loved my blog and my business website. Both were my favorite projects, which my friend and designer of many years, Moe, designed for me. I was gutted! However, amid that chaos, I found some peace. I talk about it more here. If you see any broken links around the internet, give me a little grace!
As I usher in a new year and reflect on the entirety of my previous year, I want to encourage you to own all of your story. I remember when I first interned at a music production company at 19. I wrote a press release for a local Chicago artist coming out with his debut album. When writing press releases, you typically only highlight the good news (unless the not-so-good parts help to build the story arc). However, that's not the same in real life. We can't just cherry-pick the good parts and be ashamed of the other chapters of our lives.
Know this: even when you're a work in progress, the entire story is still good.
I hope you're encouraged not only by my story, but also by your own. Give yourself the grace and space to develop and, as the Instagram girlies say, "Let God show you how good it can get."
Always speak life,
Vannesia
